EMPLOYER GUIDE

Supervise junior technical talent

Good supervision is not constant task assignment. It is a clear starting brief, accessible context, regular review, and a safe route for questions or mistakes.

Set a rhythm the student can rely on

Agree how the student starts, where work is documented, when progress is reviewed, and who can unblock a question. Put the first small deliverable on the calendar so the placement can move from orientation to evidence.

\n

Use reviews to discuss the reasoning behind the work, not only whether a task is finished. This creates a useful learning record without promising a particular career outcome.

\n
  • A first-week orientation and a first bounded deliverable.
  • Regular technical and learning check-ins.
  • Feedback in writing when it changes the brief or expectations.

Make escalation normal

Students should know that pausing to ask is a responsible technical action. Make it easy to report uncertainty, accidental access, a security concern, or a change in the project's risk.

\n

Coordinate with the school and any DIVD.Works mentor when an issue affects assessment, safety, or the agreed project boundary.

\n
  • Name the supervisor and backup contact.
  • Review access as the project changes.
  • Close the placement with feedback, handover, and a safe data-retention decision.
