Make internship readiness explicit

Students need more than a vacancy link. A school can make the transition clearer by aligning requirements, preparation, supervision, and escalation before a placement starts.

Translate requirements into questions

Give students a short checklist for comparing an opportunity with their programme: required deliverable, duration, supervisor, assessment route, location, language, and access constraints.

Where a public listing does not answer a question, make the question visible. A missing field should trigger a conversation, not an assumption.

  • What must the student deliver for the programme?
  • Who approves the workplace and supervises the learning?
  • How are concerns or a mismatch escalated?

Prepare for the first conversation

Help students explain what they know, what they want to practise, and what support they need. This improves the quality of the first conversation without promising that every opportunity will be a fit.

Use the current student pathway and safety guidance as shared reference points for that preparation.

  • Bring the programme requirements and timeline.
  • Ask how the work will be reviewed.
  • Confirm what information and systems the student may access.
